The Old Stocks Inn

Happy anniversary to us! This time of year is so difficult to have an anniversary, don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating “us” around Christmas and we have been on some epic winter dates from Snozone to Christmas markets & light shows, we’re all over that winter cuteness! However back in October when we had a week off, I thought this year we probably wouldn’t be allowed to do any or all the things we wanted to in December, so I booked a table and a night away for our Anniversary - a month early! Well people celebrate things late - don’t they? I just wanted to mark the occasion and it was so nice to have a night away.

I have yet written about The Porch House where we stayed, but it wasn‘t quite what we had in mind, so a last minute google brought us to The Old Stocks Inn - and bloody hell we’re glad it did!

It was fantastic from the moment we stepped in, our reservation was promptly located and we were shown to a lovely corner table, with one other couple already sat. The music was soft, but funky low-fi which suited the surroundings which were both modern but cosy. We were instantly given warm bread and perfectly presented butter.

The menu was small and concise, there were plenty of appealing dishes and it was very hard to choose! I had the terrine to start and the pheasant dish for main (then the chocolate orange dessert 😋). Mal had seat trout, which I’m not keen on (because, fish = 🤢).

Guineafowl terrine, celeriac

The perfect starte amount of a beautifully textured terrine, with bites of apple and celeriac.

Pheasant, Parma ham crisp & girroles

As you can see this wasn’t just annother Cotswolds pub, this place is actually producing some incredible food! We were blown away! We laughter and talked and ended up staying in the bar for not one but two after dinner drinks in the bar.

Thank god we had gone for the 6pm table. It felt like it was much later than it was, as we were politely told the time and ushered out (at 10pm - 😰 thanks Boris!)

The service was sublime, gently yet cheery (all from an incredibly safe distance). The loos were well stocked and cleaned during dinner service and they had very clear one way arrows where needed. We were chatting with the bartender who had been there years and he said it was a great place to work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
